School Readiness
At Castlefort Academy, we understand that school readiness goes beyond uniforms and stationery. For primary-age children in the UK, building routines at home helps children feel secure and confident when they start school. A calm, consistent day-to-day rhythm supports listening skills, emotional regulation, and a smoother transition into the classroom environment.
Key routines to focus on include teeth brushing and healthy hygiene habits. Encouraging children to brush their teeth independently, using age-appropriate techniques and the right amount of supervision, helps them feel prepared for daily school routines. If your child is still learning, practice at the same times each day, praise effort, and keep instructions simple so they can participate confidently.
Potty training and independence are also important for early school success. When children can manage toileting routines with minimal support, they are more comfortable and able to concentrate on learning. Alongside this, gently promoting independence—such as putting on coats, managing their belongings, and following simple instructions—builds confidence and helps children adapt to classroom expectations.
